The City of Denison, Iowa (population 8,373) is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of Police. The current Chief is leaving after serving forty-four (44) years in law enforcement, with the last five (5) as Chief of the Denison Police Department. Denison is the county seat of Crawford County, located adjacent to Highways 141, 59 and 30. Located in West central Iowa, the community enjoys a diverse population, a variety of cultural events and an exceptional school system. Denison is a full-service community with ample dining, retail, recreation, sporting, employment, cultural, educational and entertainment options. Education Requirements:
Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration or a closely related field is preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:
Seven (7) years of experience in police operations, with a successful record of progressively more responsible supervisory experience is preferred. Additional training and/or education may be considered in lieu of years of experience.

Salary and Benefits:
The Chief of Police is an FLSA exempt position.
Salary: Negotiable DOQ

Certification:
Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and meet the licensing standards established by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy ILEA | Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. The successful candidate must pass a physical examination, psychological examination, and drug screen.

Residency:
