JOB DESCRIPTION: AQUATICS DIRECTOR
Position: Aquatics Director
Department: Aquatics
General Statement of Duties:
Overall administration, operation, programming, and maintenance of the Aquatic Center.
Reports to: Parks & Recreation Director
Major Responsibilities:
- Financial responsibilities
- Bank deposit
- Concession stand inventory and register accounting (stocking and ordering)
- Monthly financial reports
- Membership reconciliation and reporting
- Sponsorships and donations (collecting, requesting and recording)
- Record keeping
- Staff certifications
- Equipment warranties
- Programming lists (Swimming lessons and Aquatics Programs)
- Maintains the schedule for the use of the facility
- Complete and maintain monthly safety checks
- Study, comply and ensure all applicable government regulations are followed
- Staffing
- Recruitment, hiring, training and supervising
- Generate staff schedule
- Complete annual performance reviews of Aquatic staff
- Attending and assisting in staff meetings
- Public Relations
- Selling, tracking and maintaining memberships
- Assist individuals in signing up for programs
- Addressing complaints
- Managing social media for the Aquatic Center
- Facility Maintenance
- Maintaining water chemistry (keeping logs and records)
- Preventative maintenance schedule
- Cleaning schedule and task list (for the pool and mini-golf areas)
- Ordering cleaning supplies and keeping inventory
- Keep seasonal checklists and ensure completion
- Inspects equipment and contacts necessary individuals for repair/maintenance
- Other
- Lifeguard (as needed)
- Some on-call responsibilities
- Swim Team responsibilities
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Must have a combination of skills, knowledge, and training that will enable the performance of the responsibilities outlined above. Recreational programming skills, leadership, managerial skills, special population skills, good public relation skills, and strong physical swimming and safety skills are needed. Must be able to physically and mentally respond to any emergency at any time. Must be willing to work with chemicals and be able to lift approximately 50 pounds or more.
Required experience and training:
Associate’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management or related field (preferred but not required); or equivalent experience working in a supervisory role within an aquatics or recreational setting. Current driver’s license required.
The following certifications will be required for the role; however, the City of Denison is willing to train and assist in acquiring certifications.
CPO certified
Red Cross Lifeguarding certified
Red Cross First Aid & CPR/AED certified
Red Cross Certified Lifeguard Instructor
Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer (preferred)
